John has been in the arboricultural industry for over 37 years and has always been interested in trees. As a boy growing up in West Monroe, Louisiana, he helped his father in their family-owned sawmill. It was there he began to learn about trees - everything from forest survey and logging, to cutting timber for finished products. After serving in the US Air Force, he returned to the tree business in Birmingham, Alabama where he worked as a tree climber. In 1986, John was certified as an arborist by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, and in 1992 he became an ISA Certified Arborist through the International Society of Arboriculture. In 1988, John moved to South Florida and worked as a foreman with a local tree service before launching his own business, Sutton Consulting Arborist, Inc. in 1996..., He became a Certified Landscape Inspector through the Landscape Inspectors Association of Florida in 2002, and in 2006 became a graduate of The American Society of Consulting Arborist Academy. Over time, John has enhanced his practical experience with formal education by attending numerous seminars including University of Florida Tropical Palms and Cycads Short Course (Fall 1997), Broward County Tree and Landscape Ordinance Seminar (Spring 2000), Florida Trees 2001-2011 , Trees of Florida 2004-2006, various courses on tree Appraisals, Native Habitats and Current Utility Arboriculture. He continues his education annually through various seminars and workshops.
